Zovirax Creamis an easy to rub in cream that turns clear and quickly disappears into the skin. It contains the antiviral agent aciclovir and the patented MAC-P carrier. This is because aciclovir is poorly absorbed by itself, so the MAC-P assists it to penetrate the skin and reach the site of the infection. It enters the cells that are infected with the cold sore virus and helps to stop the virus multiplication. There are four stages to a cold sore:
A cold sore is an infection which is caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV). Most of the population carries the virus, although not everybody gets attacks or cold sores. It is usually caught during childhood, and it passes through the skin, travels up a nerve then hides in a nerve junction until it is reactivated. When the virus is reactivated, it travels down the nerve to the face and starts to replicate which is the tingling sensation that occurs. There are many different causes for the cold sore virus to reactivate, including:

Stages of the virus
After the itchy, tingly stage, the site of the cold sore gradually develops into a blister or a small group of blisters, surrounded by red and swollen skin.
After a day or so these burst to produce the typical open sore.
Like a sore anywhere on your body, these sores gradually dry up and form a crusty scab, which is usually a yellow-brown colour.
The sore gradually heals.
The scab falls off over a few days and should completely disappear after around 10 days, or faster with the use of Zovirax Cold Sore Cream.
The area may be a bit swollen for few days.

Zovirax Cream 10g works by inhibiting the replication of the herpes virus in the body. Zovirax Cream 10g interferes with the herpes virus's ability to cause the virus to replicate, thus stopping the infection from developing. The virus is more likely to be converted into a bacterial type by the action of the DNA polymerase enzyme. In immunocompromised patients, the use of antiviral drugs, like acyclovir, blocks the body's ability to block the replication of the virus, thus stopping the infection from developing. Crystalluria is a structural deformity of the mucous membranes that results in crystal deposits known as zeta receptors. These zeta receptors can be seen under the eyes, mouth, throat, genitals, vagina, and scalp. Physiologically, zeta receptors are large structures located on the surface of the skin, abdomen, and back. Zetasignal disorders, such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, are serious serious adverse drug reactions that occur in patients with hypersensitivity (as with other serious adverse reactions), and can be life-threatening.
